Supreme Court Weighs Rights Of 'Deadbeat' Parents

The Supreme Court currently is considering the rights of so-called 'deadbeat' parents, many of whom are being jailed for nonpayment of child support.

Totenberg notes, "So-called deadbeat parents have long been a conundrum for the law."  Her report also delineates the difference betwen litiants who choose not to pay versus those who are unable to pay due to poverty.

Our 2009-2010 Annual Report draws attention to the circumstances of unrepresented litigants in the Courts and considers the vital role legal services agencies perform for clients who might not have been able to achieve positive results without representation.
